Chances are, your business, organization or event already has a website. Possibly, you think that's all you need to take advantage of the huge communication opportunities of the Web.
But that's wrong.

A robust blog can be even more important than a regular website. Combined WITH a strong website, a blog can synergistically build your online communications in dynamic ways.
A. Get Seen By Spiders
Search engines like Google, Yahoo and now Bing continually send out robotic agents called indexers, worms or, more commonly, spiders. These automatic critters crawl the Web looking for fresh content - which gives indexed pages more "authority" in the digital eyes of the search engine.
More authority means better placement in searches; the sites with more happening usually get placed in the first page of a search - as far as most searchers look.
How often do you change content on your website? Probably not that often. But a blog should feature content that changes regularly, daily or weekly.
The result: It gets better search results than most static websites.
B. Excite Your Website
By linking a blog to your website - preferably as an extension of your established domain - you are bringing that "authority" and freshness back to your existing site. It's like adding a search engine turbocharger.
By linking your website to your blog, you are creating links in and out - and that also starts to boost search engine ranking.
C. Get The Dialogue Flowing
Most websites don't have a method for building communication between you and your audience. Like an ad, it is one-way communication.
Most blogs have a comment section where readers can respond to articles and ideas (and each other) - and can offer links to other websites that may interest readers. The result is ongoing interactive communication between your business or group and your readers.
That brings energy and interest to your blog - and adds more fresh content and links to boost your search engine visibility.
D. Be More Social
With Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and a growing list of other social media, smart marketers on a budget now have almost unlimited opportunity to become connected with millions of potential new customers and allies. Social media thrives on short bursts of communication - like blog posts.
It's simple (in fact automatic) with most blogging software to immediately send out a link to your latest blog post to your Twitter followers and Facebook friends and even store the article on your LinkedIn page. From there, it can go viral - almost anywhere on the web. Static websites don't offer that immense opportunity.
So, what are you waiting for? If you want to exponentially increase the reach of your message - and build the visibility of your existing website - build a blog!
